By this period, the writing is essentially modern and easy to read. Vaud had its own Revolution in 1798, out of sympathy for the French Revolution, so at this period everyone is now known as "Citizen", and some pages of this register bear the notation "Liberté - Egalité" at the top. Both the married and maiden names of women are given, and the relationships of the godparents to the child or at least to each other are noted. Families who had citizenship in Morges often sent baptismal documents from other parishes back to Morges, to make sure their children were registered there.
Guillaume Evrard Johannot and his wife Susanne Jacqueline Johannot were fourth cousins once removed, though it took a lot of research to discover this! Louise Johannot née Lacombe was in fact Louise Delacombe, grandmother of the child's mother. The Johannot family were paper-makers from Annonay, France, who came to Geneva and Vaud in 1685 after the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes. Part of the family remained in Annonay, outwardly Catholic, while another branch established itself in Frankfurt (starting a papermill there), and another branch still not identified went to Kent, England, working in the same trade. After the French Revolution, some parts of the family settled in Paris and Lyon, and one of them found himself elected to a convention in France where he could vote for the execution of the King.
