Jean and Phillippa Planche appear to be the parents of Pettermand Planche as well as Benigna Planche. The latter's marriage to Claude Ollevey is attested by notarial documents (recorded by Benoit Nyble), which also identify Benigna's son-in-law Georges Gorgeron as the guardian of the heirs of Pettermand Planche. Gorgeron was energetic in managing the estate; the surviving children became prominent in the government and social life of Payerne as soon as they reached adulthood. It is unlikely that that Gorgeron would have had this position if a closer relative had existed, and as there is no mention of Pettermand's wife Jacobe, it almost certainly means that she too had died about 1588. There is so far only one mention of the presumed daughter Marguerite, relating to her remarriage in 1590. The daughter Anne is identified in her marriage contract, but later records involving her husband Jacob Michiez seem not to provide any additional details.
Our Jean Planche appears to be the same Johannes Planchius, Planchiz, or Planchit with wife Phillippa Vuillomyn who appear in a document of Pierre Chuard in 1527. This Johannes is the son of the late Gaspardius, and Phillippa the daughter of the late Claudius Vuillomyn. That would put the birthdates of their children somewhere between the 1520's and the 1540's. One document appears to indicate Johannes' profession as "carniffici", often taken as a euphemism for executioner, but in this instance, as there are several men having this occupation at the same time in the records of Payerne, we believe it actually means butcher.
In several documents (1520's), Jean Planche is identified as a "universal heir" of the estate of the late Jean Grissod. That is, he inherited a full share of the estate, not merely a specific bequest. Grissod could be his uncle or grandfather, and this would probably mean that Gaspard Planche's wife was a Grissod. The most informative document found so far, dated 1532, has Jean ward of the late Jean Grissod making a settlement of the legacy to Jean Planche, and notes that the testament of Jean Grissod was recorded by Pierre Gachet.
Maxime Reymond's article "L'Abbaye de Payerne" (Revue historique vaudoise, 1912-1913) includes an incident in the fall of 1532 in which Jean Planche was accused of assaulting one of the monks of the Abbey, brother Claude Banquetaz. This occurred in the context of the political struggle between the Catholic and Protestant factions in Payerne, in which both Bern and Fribourg had inserted their influence on opposing sides. The Conseil de Payerne and the assembled populace supported Planche, and after several more years of conflict, the Reformation finally triumphed on 10 mar 1536; a few months later, Jean Planche, credited with being one of the instigators of the Reformation at Payerne, took his seat on the Conseil.
(Additional documentation of this affair is reported in Aimé-Louis Herminjard's Correspondance des réformateurs.)
This is apparently the same Discret Jehan de la Planche, bourgeois de Lustrier et de Payerne, who had owned property at Lutry circa 1540 that had since come into the posession of Anthoine Tillier of Bern in 1620 (ACV Ff 166 fol. 252v). The same property had been recognized even earlier (in a terrier compiled by Pierre Marchand) by Gaspard de la Planche. Property of Jean Planche that had previously been in the hands of Louis Vuillermyn (possibly the same family as the wife of Jean Planche) is mentiond in another terrier Ff 112, fol. 720, 16 feb 1586.

A record of David Givel, notary at Payerne, mentions an agreement between Jean Planche and the late Noble Josué Gachet regarding property at Payerne (presumably property they owned jointly as a result of inheritance in the Gachet family), but the date of the agreement and the name of the notary are not given (29 feb 1624).

The earliest member of the family listed in the parish registers at Payerne. Earlier members of the family include a Jean Planche or de la Planche appearing in records of Jean Savary in 1537. A record of David Gachet, notary, dated 01 jan 1591, refers to the heirs of the late Petterman Planche, bourgeois and conseiller of Payerne. Similar records of Jaques Girod mention the late Pettermant Planche 14 may 1590.
A document of Jean Amey Bondu, notary at Payerne, dated 03 mar 1588, identifies George Gorgeron as the administrator of the estate of the late Pettermand Planche, the earliest such reference we have located so far.
The guardian of the heirs of Pettermand Planche was George Gorgeron. A document of Jaques Girod, notary, 16 jul 1592 involves George Gorgeron acting for the heirs, and also Begnigna Planche, daughter of the late Jean Planche and his wife Phillippa. Begnigna had married George Ollevey (apparently recorded by Benoit Nyble, notary), and this George Ollevey was the "beaupère" (father-in-law) of George Gorgeron. Pettermand was the son of Jean Planche and Phillippa, and his executor George Gorgeron was his nephew. The connection was finally confirmed in records of Jean Amey Bondu, notary at Payerne, Registre 1, p. 148, dated 11 jul 1572. This date is used to estimate Pettermand's birthdate, assuming he was at least 25 years of age by that date.
[1206] Mention of the heirs of the late Petermand Planche in numerous documents of notaries, earliest 03 mar 1588, recorded by Jean Amey Bondu.
[1508] Date of contract recorded by Blaise Chalon, notary at Payerne. The same notary recorded assignals in 1570 for this couple.

Is this the Abraham Portaz who held many offices at Cully in the late 17th Century? Is he also the one who married Catherine Fatio before 1680? There seems to be no evidence against this conclusion, but no proof either.

That Clément Portaz of Cully was the father of a Regnier or René Portaz is attested by a number of documents, including the manuals of the Conseil at Lausanne. Proof that this René, rather than René the son of Saturnin Portaz of Lausanne, was the father of the Jean Portaz who married Claudine de Palézieux, has not been located. The argument for this parentage rests on the assumption that one family remained in Cully, and the other remained in Lausanne. This seems reasonable, but the alternative cannot be ruled out.
The version of Antonio de Faria, in the context of an account of the Swiss descendants of Dom Antonio I, King of Portugal (Archives Héraldiques Suisses 21:39-67, 1907), shows Clément as the son of Pierre, in turn "descendant" of the founder of the family, Janinus Porta. From other sources, Janinus was a Lombard (Italian) who settled at Cully before 1522. The other children of Pierre are mentioned in a number of documents. We add Clément here, following de Faria.

While the marriage is recorded at Lausanne, it is out of order, on a page that records marriages of 1728 and 1730, and that occurred elsewhere. In fact, the record does not actually state that this marriage was celebrated at Lausanne.
