Information from Ernest Grundy helps trace the movements of this family: Lucinda and her father travelled by horse and buggy to look for land near the confluence of Prairie Dog Creek with the Republican River, on the border of Kansas and Nebraska, returning soon to homestead, apparently on the Kansas side in Phillips Co., likely around 1870. (This needs to be checked!) The Grundy family arrived about the same time on the Nebraska side, about 5 miles south of Alma. Lucinda and Benjamin were married in 1876, though on which side of the state line has not been discovered. Their first child who survived, Della, was born in 1881 in Nebraska, but by 1884, they had moved south and east to Lockwood, Dade Co., MO, where Lowell Grundy, father of Ernest Grundy, says his grandmother Elvira McDougall spent her last years -- he spoke of kneeling at her feet to button her shoes when he was a child. The Grundy's remained in Missouri until 1902, when they moved west by wagon to Climax, Greenwood Co., KS. Just before World War I, they moved again to Bolivar, Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana, where they farmed for several years before returning to Climax, KS.
Lowell Grundy's recollections of his grandmother need to be reconciled with information in the obituary of his grandmother. After the death of her husband in 1884, she seems to have lived with one or more of her children near Alma (at least one reference to her son John R. McDougall in Phillips Co., KS, for example), then remarried to Morey Shafty in 1893. Her obituary indicates they lived in Phillips Co. until Mr. Shafty died in January of 1893, and Elvira the next month. It is likely that the sojourn with the Grundy's would have been about 1890.
Locations on census records: 1880 - Harlan Co., NE (next to other members of Grundy family and John and Elvira McDougall); 1900 - Dade Co., MO; 1910 - Greenwood Co., KS; 1920 - Tangipahoa Parish, LA. 1900 census notes she had 8 children of which 4 were then living. Only one of the missing children has so far been identified (Ernest Grundy, on 1880 census).

Of the known daughters of Duncan McDougall and Janet Calder who came from Scotland, only Margaret was old enough to have been married and widowed with 4 children by 1763. However, the name of her husband is not mentioned in the documents relating to the Argyle Patent. Further complicating this story are suggestions that Mark Liddle, who is said to have come from Scotland and settled in the Argyle Patent in 1795, married Margaret, daughter of Duncan McDougall, and that Duncan (who clearly died in 1791, his will proved in April of that year) "apparently left the remainder of lot 75 to his children", including Margaret, wife of Mark Liddle! In any case, Mark and Margaret somehow ended up wtih 84 acres of lot 75 (according to James McNaughton — our count shows 134 acres), which they sold in 1805 (Deed, M, p. 54)) to Andrew McMullen.
The deed in question reveals that the property was in fact in the northern third of Lot 75 (four separately described parcels), which had been the part Alexander McDougall received from the estate of his father Duncan McDougall. By 1793 (still prior to the arrival of Mark Liddle in the Argyle Patent), Sgt. Alexander McDougall, husband of Jane, one of Duncan's daughters, bought up all shares of the northern third of lot 75, so Mark Liddle must have purchased his property from or through Sgt. Alexander. The property, or at least the first part of it, 100 acres, appears to be that purchased by Mark and Margaret by means of a mortgage payable to Thomas Buchanan of the City of New York, merchant, 02 oct 1795, and paid in full on 13 oct 1795 (Washington Co., NY, Morgages, vol. A, 605-606, one hundred acres in lot seventy rive, beginning at Randle McDougal's north west corner to the north west corner of the whole lot, then east to the north east corner of the whole lot, then south to Randle McDougall's north east corner, then west to the place of beginning, excepting out of the said bounds fifty acres to be taken square of [perhaps =off ?] the northwest corner, containing one hundred acres of land exclusive of lakes and ponds — this phrase might be an unrecognized part of the original survey of lot 75, perhaps the original 450 acres was intended to be "exclusive of lakes and ponds", and so the original measurements might not work out exactly to 450 acres). Perhaps Sgt. Alexander had obtained financing from Thomas Buchanan and had not been able to pay off his morgtage in time to avoid forfeiture. However, this story leave us far from proof or even a strong suggestion that Margaret, wife of Mark Liddle, was a daughter of Duncan McDougall and Janet Calder.

She is identified as a daughter of "Randall" McDougall and as the wife of William McCarter in a quit claim deed (Washington Co., Deeds, EE, pp. 105-106) in which the later owners of her 1/6th interest, Abel Wood and his wife Electa, sell the 1/6th interest in the original parcel of about 35 acres to John McDougall, 20 dec 1827. A few years earlier, Robert McDougall held a 1/7th interest in the same property, which was sold at a sheriff's sale for debts and eventually purchased by John McDougall. However, that there would now be a 1/6th interest seems to imply that one of the original 7 had died without issue in the interim.
