Surname changed from Arnaud to Nicod gradually, around 1600. Apparently the same man, notary, was "beaufrere" of Noble Jaques Chalon of Cully, whose late wife was Elizabeth Savataire alias DeMartherenges (document recorded 13 apr 1574 by Jaques Richard, notary at Moudon, ACV DL 79/1). His appointment as notary was recorded 30 aug 1559 by Jean Jaquier, notary at Moudon (ACV DL 53/1 fol. 39v). The document gives the name of his father, Claude Nicod alias Arnaud, in his lifetime a notary at Granges.
On 25 sep 1563, the cour de justice of Moudon approved a settlement among the heirs of Claude de Martherenges alias Savatheyroz (Jean Jaquier, notary at Moudon, ACV DL 53/1 fol. 113). The heirs were Jaques Riguet, bourgeois and conseiller of Moudon for his wife Jaquemaz, a daughter of Savatheyroz, Noble Antoine Chalon for his brother Noble Jaques Chalon whose wife was Elizabeth, another daughter, and Discret Daniel Arnauld notaire resident at Moudon for his wife Susanne, another daughter of Savatteyroz. Claude Savataire had left no testament, and so the heirs disagreed about how to proceed. The settlement proves the name of Daniel Nicod's wife.
The source of the Arnaud part of the surname is uncertain. We believe this is the same Danyel who, with his brothers Arnaud, Phillibert, and Jehan, paid the marriage settlement of 420 florins for the remarriage of their late mother Jeanne Bize, who had next married Noble Michel Fivaz, the brothers being represented by Noble Guillaume Espaz of Moudon, maternal brother of the said Jeanne Bize (Pierre Chuard, notary at Payerne, ACV Dp 16/8, fol. 395, dated 02 may 1561).

Daughter of Daniel Arnaud, bourgeois and conseiller de Moudon. As late as 1632 (and sometimes demonstrably as Sara DuToict) she is loaning and collecting money from various people around Moudon, as evidenced by many notarial records. She is noted as Sara Nycod in a document of Jaques Jaqueri, notary. An alias is involved, as she is noted as Sara Nicod in the testament of Gaspard DuToict as well. Marriage contract names her father Daniel Nicod, 18 dec 1597, Jaques Richard, notary. At least one mention in the registers at Moudon notes the alias, e.g., the baptism of Daniel son of "Moyse Arnaud alias Nicod", 05 feb 1630.

The pastor [Pierre?] Crozet at Potzlow was the brother-in-law of Théophile and François Fleureton, and the biographical sketch of the Théophile implies that the remnants of the family lived there after the death of François, also that Théophile left Potzlow for Magdeburg about 1740 when his nephew Moyse settled there. The "mademoiselle Fleureton" who died in 1737 at Potzlow is therefore tentatively identified as the widow of François. However, she could equally well be one of his daughters or an unknown sister.

Summary information from sources at the ACV says he was Seigneur du Grand et du Petit Gué le Roy, secrétaire du Roy, et de Monsieur le Duc de Sully. This information came from the lettre de bourgeoisie of his son Spectable Jacob (or Jaques) Nicolas dit DuGué, ministre et bourgeois de Lausanne, and possibly also from his son's marriage contract (dated 26 jul 1666, Egrège de Montherand, notaire, register for 1664-1675—this is Jean Baptiste de Montherand, ACV DG 178/1, FHL microfilm #0901104, not yet examined). The entry concerning the bourgeoisie is AVL D438, fol. 55v, among the bourgeois received on 21 may 1666: "Noble et Spectable Jacob Nicolas dict Du Gué fils de Noble Abraham Nicolas Sr. du Grand et Petit Gué Le Roy et Courtevine Secretarie de sa Majesté Tres Chrestienne, et de Mr. le Duc de Sully, a esté receu bourgeois, moyennant 350 florins et les vins." It should be noted that this inscription implies that Abraham was still alive in 1666, because otherwise he would almost certainly have been cited as "feu Noble Abraham Nicolas".
The full text from the de Loys genealogy (ACV P Loys 4520/1, Histoire généalogique de la maison de Loys, manuscript, dates roughly from the end of the 17th Century, when some of these people were still alive, author unknown): "Louyse mariée à Spectable Jacob Nicolas dict du Gué ministre fils de Abraham Nicolas Seigneur du Grand & petit Gué le Roy et Courtemine ?, secretaire ordinaire de la chambre du Roy, commissaire ordinaire de l'Artillerie et de la marine du Ponant ?, conseiller correcteur de la chambre des comptes de Montpellier, et de Marie de Burges fille de Berthelemi de Burges Seigneur de Vezieres, Croüart et les Forges ?, leur contract de mariage est signé Jean Baptiste de Montherand et Christophle Deliamont le 26 Juillet 1666." This inscription, too, implies that Abraham was still alive.
Another version of the story of this family is found in Eugène and Emile Haag's La France Protestante (first edition, vol. 8, 1858, p. 17): "Leu, dans son Lexikon, parle d'une autre famille du même nom et également réfugiée, mais originaire de La Rochelle. Il nous apprend qu'Abraham Nicolas, sieur du Gué-le-Roy, fils d'Abraham Nicolas, greffier au présidial de La Rochelle, et de Jeanne Béraud, qui fut successivement secrétaire de Sully, puis secrétaire de la chambre du roi, en 1610, commissaire de l'artillerie, en 1613, commissaire de la marine, en 1617, et enfin conseiller de la Chambre des comptes de Montpellier, en 1623, se retira, sur la fin de ses jours, à Lausanne, et obtaint, en 1633, les droits de la bourgeoisie à Berne. Il avait épousé à Paris, en 1625, Marie de Burges, fille de Barthélemy de Burges, sieur de Vaizières, et d'Anne Le Proust (Reg. de Charent.), dont il avait eu une fille, Marie, née en 1637, et un fils. Ce fils, nommé Jacob, naquit en janvier 1641 et fut reçu bourgeois de Lausanne en 1666 ; il mourut pasteur à Oron, en 1721. Il avait fait, en 1697, l'acquisition de la seigneurie de Treytorrens, que ses descendants possédaient encore du temps de Leu."
However, what Leu has to say about this family is only a small part of what we find attributed to him in La France Protestante, and there are some further details. The relevant paragraph is found in volume 14 of Johann Jacob Leu's Allgemeines Helvetisches, Eydgenössisches, Oder Schweitzerisches Lexicon (Zürich: Hans Ulrich Denzler, 1758, generally known as the Lexikon), pp. 127-128: "Nicolas du Gué. Ein adeliches Geschlecht in der Bernerischen Stadt Lausanne, welches urspringlich von la Rochelle in Frankreich herstammet, und aus welchem Abraham Nicolas, Herr von gros und klein Gué le Ros erstlich Secretarius des Herzogs von Sully hernach A. 1619 Kammer-Secretarius Königs Henrici IV, A. 1613 Artillerie-Commissarius, 1617 Commissarius der See-Sachen, und 1623 Raht zu Untersuchung der Rechnungen zu Montpellier und des Königs Einkünsten der Provinz Lauguedoc worden, hernach aber sich nach Lausanne begeben, und von der Stadt Bern 1653 das Land-Recht erhalten: Sein Sohn Jacob bekam A. 1666 das Burger-Recht in der Stadt Lausanne, trat in den geistlichen Stand, und starb als Pfarrer zu Oron 1721 in dem 82 Jahr seines Alters, da er züber 1697, die Herrschaft Treytorrens erkauft, welche seine Söhne annoch besizen."

Blason : de gueules à une fasce d'argent chargée de 3, alias de 2 étoiles d'azur, accompagnée d'un soleil d'or en chef, et d'un croissant d'argent en pointe. (Titres de la famille Sanglier.) 1.—Acéré (Marc-Antoine), qualifié noble homme, conseiller et secrétaire du Roi, est nommé dans un quittance donnée par honorable homme Mre Pierre Guérin et Judicq Deceriziers à Jehan du Verger, en date du 4 février 1641. "BURGES (DE).—La majeure partie des notes qui suivent ont été communiquées par feu M. de Gennes-Sanglier, qui les avait relevées dans les papiers de la famille Sanglier. Blason : d'azur au chevron d'or accompagné en chef de 2 coquilles d'argent, et en pointe d'un grue de même, tenant au bec un serpent de sinople. (Armorial des maires de Tours.)
"Noms isolés. Burges (Olivier de), établi dans un titre de rente, du 30 déc. 1430, due à Guillaume d'Ozon. Burges (Mathurin), bachelier en lois, était, le 26 août 1461, sénéchal de Mirebeau. Burges (Jeanne de) était, en 1532, femme de Louis Martinet, Ecuyer, seigneur de la Crespelle. Burges (Martin de), seigneur d'Aultruy, faisait partie, en 1534, de la maison du Vicomte et de la Vicomtesse de Thouars (Chart. de Thouars, p. 60). Burges (N...), receveur des tailles à Loudun, était protestant, et fut élu par ses coreligionnaires député aux Etats en 1614. D'après Trincant, il aurant été choisi par les catholiques. Johann Jacob Leu's Allgemeines Helvetisches, Eydgenössisches, Oder Schweitzerisches Lexicon (generally known as the Lexikon) says he died in 1721 at Oron, age 82, thus placing his date of birth about 1639. Other sources say 1634 of 1641. The 1639 date is more likely to be correct, but we have not checked the church records at Oron. The 1634 figure could be the result of a typographical error, and the 1641 date could stem from a misreading of the original church record (reading his age at death as 80 rather than 82 years).
He attended the Académie de Lausanne 1653-1659 and the Académie de Genève 1662-1665, and then served as minister successively at La Tour-de-Peilz (1668-1673), Mont-sur-Lausanne (1673-1674), Lausanne (4th post, 1674-1685), and then minister at Pully (1685-1700), Corsier-sur-Vevey (1700-1703), and finally Oron (1703-1721), where he died in 1721. He purchased the fief of Treytorrens in 1697. He is sometimes called Jaques. AVL D441/3 contains a list of the bourgeoisie of Lausanne, compiled in 1688, which lists the sons of Jacob: George, Philippe, Louys, Pierre Elie, and Marc Elie. His thesis in theology for the Académie de Lausanne is dated 1659, "De Voluntate Dei".
His marriage contract was recorded 26 jul 1666 by Jean Baptiste de Montherand (ACV Dg 178/1, unnumbered, but the contract is the first item in the register).
His purchase of the fief of Treytorrens is noted in ACV Ba 33/5, pp. 648 ff, as a result of an "acte privé" dated 30 jan 1696, and an "acte stipulé" (meaning, a transaction recorded by a notary) dated 25 jan 1697.

He is variously called Jean Jacob, Jacob, or Jean Jaques. He was named as substituary heir of his aunt Anne Françoise Masset (ACV Bg 120/3, fol. 505, not yet examined).
In 1767, Jeanne Baldy complained to the Consistory of Lausanne that she had become pregnant by the minister Jean Jaques DuGué de Treytorrens. The case occupied the Consistory for many weeks (ACV Bd 16/3, discussed intermittently from fol. 108 until at least fol. 137).
At the time of his death, he was one of the Coseigneurs of Treytorrens. His verbal testament was dictated 11 feb 1771, in the presence of the minister Jean Louis Philippon of Vevey, and Jean François Leubaz of Cossonay, designating as his universal heir his cousin David Nicolas dit DuGué, the other Coseigneur de Treytorrrens, residing at Morges, and made a bequest to his niece Julie de Montherand (ACV Bg 13/1, fol. 133v, not yet examined). His burial was recorded at Lausanne, 14 feb 1771, giving his age as 61 years. By this expedient, presumably, David Nicolas dit DuGué would have become the sole Seigneur de Treytorrens, extinguishing the Coseigneurie.
His exact date of death was found in the personal journals of Jean Henri Polier, see Pierre Morren, La vie lausannoise au XVIIIe siècle, d'après Jean Henri Polier de Vernand, Lieutenant Baillival (Geneva: Labor et Fides, 1970), p. 581.

The church registers at Goumoëns-la-Ville are incomplete, due to inattention by several ministers. Curiously, Jean Philippe DuGué is called Jacob several times, with the same wife Françoise Elisabeth de Quervain. At the baptism of his daughter Anne in 1708, he is called Seigneur de Treytorrens, and the spontors on that occasion included Pierre Elie DuGué "aussi Seigneur de Treytorrens" and his wife Anne Masset.
