He is almost certainly the father of Ludovicus Reymond alias de Gebennis, later known as Ludovicus de Gebennis, and then, as a result of his marriage to Anthonia, daughter of Petrus Billiard of Gimel, as Ludovicus Billiard. His wife Beatrix or Beatricia is identified as a daughter of Franciscus Morel and sister of Peroneta Morel, wife of Mermetus Pictet, in a reconnaissance in ACV Fi 12 (1450, day and month left blank, fol. 237). The alias de Gebennis or de Genève is associated with the Morel family, though exactly why has not yet been discovered. However, Mermetus Pictet was also known as Mermetus Gentil alias Pictet, and the children of his son Johannes Gentil alias Morel were most often known as de Genève. By 1568, some of the descendants of Johannes held property that had been owned (jointly?) with some of the descendants of Louis de Genève. Vulliermus de Gebennis and Mermetus Pitet alias Genty of Bière made a reconnaissance for property subject to the priory of Etoy, at Féchy, on 26 mar 1443 (Fh 122, fol. 35v). They had purchased the property from the heirs of Jaquetus Ros of Féchy. So far, this is the earliest known reference to Vulliermus.
A possible clue has surfaced in the terrier Fg 5, for the priory of Bière, 1419-1420, in the person of a Roletus Reymond dictus Genevaz whose property adjoined that of Franciscus and Mermetus Morelli, who were apparently first cousins, sons respectively of Stephanus Morelli and of an earlier Mermetus Morelli. This Roletus may also be the same person called Roletus de Gebennis, in the same terrier. This solution seems far more plausible, given the lack of any mention of Vuilliermus among the many reconnaissances involving Petrus Reymond and his descendants, as well as the lack of any alias that could point to an association with Vuilliermus.
Even more suggestive is the fact that Roletus de Gebennis seems to be preceded at Bière by a Reymondus de Gebennis, a plausible source of the family name Reymond. This Reymond in turn appears to be preceded by a Thomas de Gebennis, in the 1370's. There is still nothing to suggest the origin of the name de Gebennis, apart from the obvious possibility that someone (and that person possibly without a definite family name) had come from Geneva to live at Bière sometime in the 14th Century or even earlier. (Sources: ACV Fj 2 fol. 90v, C Va 1297, Af 4, Fg 3, C VIIa 466-467, P de Mestral 1500, C XX 20/8, and AEF Quernet 141 "Grosse Balay".) One consequence of these early sources is that the later appearance of de Genève as an alias among the descendants of the Morel alias Gentil family most likely derives from a later (14th Century?) marriage involving neighbors from both families. Thus, if we have interpreted the scant evidence correctly, Louis Reymond probably got his alias de Genève entirely through his paternal ancestry, rather than through his maternal ancestry in the Morel dit Gentil family.
