Name spelled Ray, instead of Rea. Married in Del Monte Twp. by J. G. Johnson, D.D. There are errors in print, written by local historians, saying this marriage took place in Mission San Gabriel. The Los Angeles Star, dtd 27 Oct. 1855, pg 2, carried the following: On Tuesday afternoon, 23rd inst., near the Mission San Gabriel, by Eld. J. G. Johnson, Mr. Jonathan Ray to Miss Agnes, daughter of Jesse Hildreth, Esq.

[15015] Marriage record to Jeffrey Hildreth/Hildreg as reported in Annals of Southwest Virginia, pg 1262 (Ancestry.com).
[15521] There are a number of discrepancies in print regarding this second family of Jeffrey Hildreth. Since it is not my direct line, I have avoided taking time to straighten out the errors. I have on file several letters from Warren Hildreth, a dentist from Kansas City, MO, whose letters are difficult to follow but I have saved them for future reference. In time they may prove helpful.
Birthplace assumed to be Orange Co., NY, as his father, Joseph Hildreth, did not migrate to Virginia until about 1778.
...I appoint Jeffery Hildreth and Robert Adams Executors hereof and request them to take the burthen of the same upon them...
Jeffrey Hildreth witnessed more than one will during the years 1812-1814: Will of Samuel Dillon, will of John Hildreth and also the will of William McClelland.
[10662] John Hildreth, I think, was his brother. Were the others related to him in some way? Thomas Talbott was also a witness to the will of William McClellan. And, Henry Hildreth was also a witness to the will of Samuel Dillon.
Will proved - Bourbon Co., KY, October Court 1820

Enlisted in 1814 when he was about 18 years old, thus his birthdate estimated at 1796. Hildreth Assn. estimated date of birth at 1797-98, which would have made him only 15 yrs old when he joined the militia.
Material submitted to D.A.R. by Myrtle Finberg of San Francisco, a Hildreth descendant, contains many errors but was a starting point for researching the Hildreth & allied families.
Jesse Hildreth served in Porter's 16th Reg't, Kentucky Militia. He enlisted in Bourbon Co., KY Sep. 10, 1814 and served until Mar. 9, 1815. He was honorably discharged at Fort Malden in Canada. Physical description given in war record: blue eyes, fair complexion, 5' 11", dark hair.
Ltr dtd 1 Feb. 1983: If there is any doubt about when the Hildreth train crossed the plains (some say 1852, some 1853), I have copies of the sale of property in Ralls Co., MO, in May 1852 by Jesse and Mary Ann Hildreth, and by Thomas and John Hildreth, so that proves they left Missouri in 1853. They left Missouri in May and arrived in Los Angeles in November. They traveled the sourthern route.
Petition of Mary Hildreth shows that on 22 June 1859 Jesse Hildreth died intestate. Personal property estimated to be $6300. Asked that Almus Roundtree (her son-in-law) be granted Letters of Administration. Petition granted and Roundtree became Administrator of the estate.
Ltr dtd 1 Oct. 1982 re marriage bonds, Bourbon Co., KY: "The date on the marriage bond is 29 January 1817. When we were in Paris, KY, I held the original in my hand. They copied it at the Court House for me."
