The 1930 census lists her as Mintie A. Nichols, living with her husband in Longmont, Colorado. That record shows she then age 42. Also in the household were Paul B. Bartholomew age 22 and Lemuel B. Baird age 10. She is apparently the Mintie Nichols born 25 apr 1887 who died in Longmont in February, 1985 (Social Security Death Index). The apparent explanation is that Mintie A. married first William L. Bartholomew (on 1910 census, La Grange, Weld Co., Colorado), then Leroy Baird b. 1880 (on 1920 census, Greeley, Weld Co., Colorado), and finally Edward O. Nichols. She is buried with her first husband at Linn Grove Cemetery, Greeley, Colorado.

It is entirely possible that the surname is incorrectly understood. For example, there is historic confusion of McDonald and McDaniel. Probably the only way to be sure would be to find Mariah mentioned as the wife of a McDonald or a McDaniel in Hamilton County deeds before 1850.

Name from registers at Tappan, NY. However, Jennie Patten quotes family tradition that Alexander married a lady from Holland, "but it is more probable that he married Catherine (2) McEachron, who came with her parents Donald (1) and Anna McDonald McEachron with Capt. Campbell in 1738." The record at Tappan, as transcribed at the NYGBS, notes the name could equally well be McDouwell. She must have died before 1793, as there is no mention of the widow after the death of her husband.

Will dated 16 dec 1780, with codicil 12 may 1786. Various deeds from his executors pertain to the will. One dated 12 mar 1791 mentions he was formerly a Major General in the army of the US, late of New York City. The land he held was lots 30 and 31. An unrelated deed refers to a lot 30 as the property of Angus McDougall (1799). Our Alexander also had lot 16 at the time of his death.
Will is in Liber 39, p. 159 -- Alexander McDougall late of New York City, now serving as a Major General in the United States Army, wife Hannah, son Ronald Stephen, daughter Elizabeth Laurance (a farm he now rents [out] late the property of Peter Corney). "I release , acquit, and discharge Elizabeth Hamilton, daughter of my sister, May (Mary) Stewart"... Mentions his nephew Lt. John McDougall lately deceased, who bequeathed to general Alexander his estate for purpose of dividing it between John's brother Alexander McDougall Jr. and his cousins Ronald S. McDougall, Elizabeth Ann Laurance, Elizabeth Hamilton, and John McDougall Laurance. Alexander Jr. is absent, his share to be held by Continental Loan Office for 7 years after termination of the present war in case he returns. Dated 16 dec 1780, codicil 12 may 1786, proved 27 jun 1786. The codicil revokes bequest to Ronald Stephen, the executors to dole out what he needs from time to time.
[6777] date hard to read in material from Jennie M. Patten, could be 06jun1786.
[14865] Bride listed as "daughter of Stephen McDougall's" in Jennie Patten's manuscript.

May have married (2) Ann, who appears to be a widow with 2 sons and a daughter in the 1800 census of Argyle (p. 257), next to Alexander's son Archibald. He may also be the Alexander 2d. in the 1790 census with a son over 16 and at least one daughter.

Pension file shows he moved to Richland Co., OH in 1839 to live with a son (not named), then returned in 1843. The 1840 census shows John A. McDougall with the 86-year old Alexander McDougall, pensioner, living with him. Witnesses in Richland Co., OH who testified that he was the same Alexander who was a pensioner in Washington Co., NY were Robert W. McNeil and Elijah Lake.
From the 1790 and 1800 census readings attributed to Sgt. Alexander, it appears there was a son born about 1784, not identified. In 1790, he is next to John McCollum and John McCollum Jr.
E. E. Sholly family notes show third wife as well, with references to DAR publications. Third wife was Mary Elsworth, DAR 53 p. 20; reference to Jane Gibson, second wife, in DAR 72 p. 270. An additional child is attributed to the third wife: Louisa McDougall m. John Brady Smith, daughter Julia Penelope Smith b. Philadelphia, PA. This line needs to be followed up.
In 1896, NY SAR member Frank Tilford claimed Sgt. Alexander as his ancestor. However, a notation in collected correspondence of Jennie Patten says this is incorrect.
In 1793, Sgt. Alexander bought out the heirs of Alexander son of immigrant Duncan (who married Janet Calder) for their shares of the north 1/3 of Lot 75 at Argyle, a total of 150 acres. Sergeant Alexander's wife Janet McDougall was the other heir of the late Alexander. Thus, after 1793, all transactions involving the north 1/3 of Lot 75 should refer to Sergeant Alexander, or his heirs.
The membership roll of the First Presbyterian Church of Argyle, supposed to date from 1802, shows the following for this family:
This list implies that Martha may have been born earlier that previously supposed; her tombstone has not been located, and we do not know the first name of her husband.
[7047] Jennie Patten's notes show 20 sep 1754, but on what basis is unknown. Pension application shows he was born in Feb. of 1755 and lived in Ulster Co. before the Revolutionary War, perhaps Shawanghunk (hard to decipher).
[7048] Argyle vital records, "gentleman".
[7049] Age 93 years.

Deeds relating to the estate of Alexander are in Washington Co. Deeds, G-8, and H-395. Daniel buys from John & Elizabeth and Alexander and Ann, and Alexander (husband of heir at law Jane) buys from John and Elizabeth McDougall, Alexander and Ann McDougall, Daniel and Mary McDougall, Daniel and Catherine Brown, John and Ann McCollum (both 11 feb 1793). A possibly related deed (H-396) involves John Brown and Nancy his wife, but a different lot, so there is no evidence that this Nancy is another daughter of Duncan.
The import of the deed of 1793, and of the will mentioned therein (07 oct 1793) is that there were only 6 surviving children of Alexander, all clearly identified. Alexander had obtained the north 1/3 of Lot 75, 150 acres, as a bequest from Duncan. By 1793, Alexander had died, and his heirs are John, Alexander, Daniel, Catherine, Ann, and Alexander (the Sergeant) whose wife was Janet McDougall.
[6934] 11feb1793 request for partition of estate of Alexander McDougall. Deed of that date mentions will of 07 oct 1774.
