While her family name in the donation by Anthonius d'Avenches to the clergy of Avenches in 1489 is explicit and perfectly legible, no other mention of an "Ancelles" family in the area around Avenches in the 15th Century has come to light. Might this name be a variant of Ansel?

[10760] Ancestry.com search of Morris Co, NJ records showed Eliakim Anderson on tax lists starting in October 1783 up through June 1818, possibly longer.
[10766] Microfilmed records of Morris Co., NJ: Wills & Probate (FHL #0550494). I believe this date refers to the filing of Anderson's estate inventory rather than the actual date of his death.
[15530] Dates of birth for children, obtained from RootsWeb's World Connect Project:A Malcolm Line by Inez, 10/13/04, need to be verified. All of these children were named in the will of Eliakim Anderson, proved 18 Oct. 1830. His will, originally dated 1811, had a codicil added shortly before his death. Rachel preceded Eliakim in death and was not named in his will.
Vol. 2, pg 92: Eliakim Anderson, b. 1750, served as a Pvt.
Eliakim Anderson was listed in Hanover Twp, Morris Co. from 1793 through 1798.
[10759] Since so few records were salvaged after the Rev. War, these tax and voters lists are the only evidence that a person really lived in the community. See map, obtained from this book, showing boundaries of the townships. Also, location of Anderson property was mentioned in Abstracts of NJ Estates by Virginia Brown, 1984, in connection with a Dickerson settlement (Orphans' Court March 1841). This would have been after the death of Eliakim, but perhaps the property was still in the family. At any rate, the Dickerson real estate included wood lots along the east side of the road from Denville to Hinchman's Mills adjoining Smith's chestnut lot and on the Mountain adjoining Eliakim Anderson, and lots adjoining Daniel Dickerson, Jos. M. Headley's Meadow, Tunis and Smith. Perhaps an old township map would show these landmarks?
Found on Ancestry.com, this abstract shows Eliakim was buried in Rockaway Cemetery, Morris Co, NJ 32.
[10765] Need to learn what the 32 signifies.
Eliakim married 2) Lydia Beach, a daughter of Stephen Beach. However, her name is not mentioned in his will or a later codicil. Further study of that document in order.
[15529] Lydia was first married to John Cooper. They had a large family: Sarah b. 1773; Wm, who married Hannah Moore, dau of David; Betsey, Sibbah, Lydia, Stephen and Daniel. No date of marriage has been found, but it would have been after 1821. Lydia was the mother-in-law of Hannah Moore Cooper, then became her step-mother when she married Eliakim Anderson!
Household of Eliakim Anderson, age 49, b. NJ; wife, Martha, age 42, b. NJ; Children: Laura, age 19, b. NJ; Mattie L., age 12, b. MI; Minnie, age 8, b. MI; Birdie, 10 mo., b. MI; Eliakim Anderson, age 84, b. NJ. Also, a hired hand, age 18, b. IN.
[10776] The name Eliakim in this family continued to be carried down from one generation to another. The older man was the son of Eliakim and Rachel of New Jersey. By the 1910 census the younger Eliakim has a new wife, named Alice.
This record shows parents as Eliakim Anderson and Rachel.

His will, dated 25 dec 1811 in Somerset Co., gives his wife Phebe the use of the fam to bring up the four youngest children Jane, James, Jacob, and Hannah, as well as the use of the negro man, Fortune (who had probably belonged earlier to Bedent Baird). His son Gavin was at that time apprenticed in a trade. Married daughters were identified as Mary Compton and Betsey Todd. Also names son George Anderson as executor with Abraham Bockoven. A codicil dated 04 jan 1812 made further provisions regarding the dower that his wife Phebe had brought with her.
James Anderson is apparently the same man whose case came before the Supreme Court of New Jersey in the September term, 1790. In brief, John Horsfield left a will dated 1761, in which he required that his two Negro slave girls Betty and Nelly be sold for a term of 15 years, and the proceeds of that sale should be divided among his four daughters. The two girls were sold to a Covenhoven, who then sold them to James Anderson. During the time that they were indentured either to Covenhoven or James Anderson, Betty had a child named Silas, who was now (1790) of full age (thus probably born about 1769, and so apparently during her time with Covenhoven) . Anderson claimed that Silas was a slave. However, Silas filed a writ of habeus corpus claiming his freedom. The court ruled that Betty and Nelly had ceased to be slaves upon the death of John Horsfield (his will had the effect of turning them into indentured servants). Slavery was hereditary (the offspring of a slave would remain a slave), but indentured servitude was not. Therefore it was ordered that "Silas be liberated from the illegal Detention of the same James Anderson, and he is hereby liberated accordingly".
