Name is listed as Israel Chafter McDougall in pension papers of his father, but Isreal S. McDougall in all available census records. Family record has middle name as Shaftey, evidently after his grandmother's second husband. He may have been the "Ireal" McDougall with wife Fern who appear along with Samuel McDougall and his wife Nellie in the school censuses of Frontier Co., NE 1912-1925. He and Fern are not in school census of 1926. However, he would be very young to be already married in 1912!
[7330] per Social Security Death Index. Death benefits were forwarded to Homedale, Owyhee Co., ID, about 5 miles down the road from Wilder. Look for obit. in Caldwell, or possibly Boise.

This is apparently the James McDougall 1st. who appears on the communicants list of the South Argyle Presbyterian Church in 1830, with the notation "D" next to his name. He is number 52 on that list, followed by John and Mary McDougall, who appear to be his son with his wife Mary Ann Harsha. The Harsha family is also well represented in records of this congregation. Deeds in book P, pp. 469, 483, and 485 appear to involve his heirs-at-law. Son James buys from John and Hannah Darby, Gerrit and Eliza Peebles, John and Mary McDougall, Anne McDougall, John and Nancy Harsha, and Daniel and Jane Stevenson. There is also an earlier deed 20 aug 1814 L-389 from John and Margaret Stevenson to Agnes McDougall, perhaps a marriage settlement? A later deed 08 jun 1827 V-465 has John and Mary A. McDougall buying from Daniel and Jane Stevenson and John and Nancy Harsha. The identity of Mary A. is unknown, unless she is the same as the Anne McDougall who apears in the deed of 1824.
James is believed to have come from Scotland in 1795 and purchased lot 23 in the Schuyler Patent in 1798 (now Ft. Edward).
At one point, the Fitch papers call him Andrew.

This is probably the James McDougall 1st of the records of the South Argyle Presbyterian Church, circa 1832. These records do not indicate any children -- he is listed with James 2nd, identified by his wife Eleanor and son John H. and a "Jane Bain McDougall" (=James Bain McDougall?) as the son of John R. Census reading 1810 has right age group, and wife, son, and 2 daughters who have not been identified.

Could this have been the James McDougall who m. Elizabeth ____ in 1837 at South Argyle Presbyterian Church? His residence at that time is listed as "La Prairie", and the maiden name of his wife has not been deciphered. In addition to named children, there is a grave in the North Argyle Cemetery for an infant of James and Eleanor, no name, no dates. Another unreadable infant burial may also belong to this couple, dated 09 feb 1848, age 11 days.
[7242] Jennie Patten notes show Briggsville, but there is no town of that name in Illinois. Possibilities include Griggsville in Pike Co., and Biggsville in Henderson Co.
