In spite of family information that she died in Adams Co., OH in 1850, we find Clarinda Smith age 52 living alone near other families from Adams Co., OH in the 1860 census, McLean Co., IL, p. 473 (this is Pleasant Hill division of Lexington Tp., P.O. Selma). Possibly the same woman is in Edgar Co. (p. 63) in 1870, living with the Francis M. Cummins household (she is age 62 there, name spelled Clorinda -- Francis Cummins had married Lydia McCoy, Clarinda's niece). We think we may finally have found her, in the Bethesda Cemetery, Sugarcreek Tp., Vigo Co., Indiana, where she would have been living with (or visiting) her sister Mary Ann McCoy: Clarenda Smith, b. 11 nov 1807, d. 11 dec 1870.
It would be very helpful to locate an obituary for her, in case her relatives might have used the occasion to mention anything about the origins of the family.
