In the 1871 census, he is in the province of Quebec, district 146 (Quebec Centre), sub-district St. Louis, division 2, barrister, age 51, with wife Catherine age 46, son Edward age 24 (already a barrister), daughter Marien (?) age 21, daughter Kathleen age 17, and a servant and a clerk.
