If Jeanne Morel was the second wife of François Rouge, then the first wife, Anne, must have died by 1609. The surname of Anne, first wife of François Rouge, is given in a document of Benoit Nible, notary, in 1574, revealing that she was the daughter of Amey Berthod and previously the wife of the late Daniel Savari son of the late Michel (?). Marriage contract with Daniel Savari specifies a Catholic wedding.

There must have been two persons of this name. A transaction recorded by Jean Amey Bondu in 1578 mentions one Aymé Berthod, couturier and bourgeois de Payerne. He must belong to a later generation, not yet definitely connected. Our Aymé bought and sold several properties in 1543 (Aymé Chuard notary), and had land next to Claude Berthod (also written Berthoz and Bertholt).

Already appears as the barber, and already married to Jaqueta, in 1518. Mentioned as owning land next to property of Aymé Berthod in many documents of the 1540's, but evidently Aymé is not one of Claude's children. It is likely that they were brothers. Claude's skill as a barber-surgeon was held in high repute, and he received a pension from the town of Payerne in return for his services of bleeding those affected by the plague. Now that we know that his wife was from the very prominent Gachet family, we can appreciate that family connections may have had something to do with the grant of this pension.

With his wife Jeannette Gaschet, he founded in 1457 a chapel dedicated to St. Michael Archangel, St. Anthony, and St. Nicolas, in the church of St. Martin at Cressier.
Was this Jeannette a descendant of the Gachet family of Villars-en-Vully? This seems possible, or even likely, because there are stray citations of this family at nearby Le Landeron as early as 1408, when a Hans Gatzchet of Willar owned vineyards there, and at least a few of the descendants of Roletus Gachet seem to have lived at Le Landeron.
His marriage contract was recorded 22 oct 1589 (Pierre George, notary at Moudon, ACV DL 46/1 fol. 19).
