Marguerite was the widow of Pierre brother of Elie Dutoit. But in 1611, the wife of Pierre, brother of Elie, is listed as Catherine. Neither of these marriages has been found. Also, there is a Marguerite Malingre who appears as the wife of Pierre Dutoit hoste who lived at Donneloye.
Proof that the Pierre Dutoit who married Marguerite was the one who had previously married Catherine Socquet was finally located in the records of Jaques Jaquier, notary at Moudon (ACV DL 52/1 fol. 251). A settlement recorded by Jaquier on 08 oct 1629 relates to "difficulties" that arose between Marguerite Menoz, widow of the late Pierre Dutoit, hoste, and his children Gaspard and Marguerite, by his first wife Catherine Socquet. The document also names Pierre's brother Elie, and two nephews of Marguerite Menoz, Pierre and Bernard Malherbe. The document is accompanied by an inventory of debts and other financial instruments, which, unfortunately, does not seem to reveal very much about Pierre. Among the provisions is the stipulation that she renounces any claim to the inn of La Croix Blanche, on the Rue Granardiez "avecq les places, curtilz, grange et estableries y adjacentz", in favor of the children Gaspard and Marguerite Dutoit. She gets the household furnishings that she claims as her own, and will pay 300 florins to her step-son Gaspard to establish him in the profession of "verrier" (glasier).
(In spite of these provisions, we find Bernard Malherbe cited in the church records of Moudon as hoste at La Croix Blanche in 1647. He or his family must have purchased the inn from Gaspard and Marguerite Dutoit.)
The small minutaire that has survived from the same notary (ACV DL 52/2) contains two brief notes dated 02 dec 1613 and 19 jan 1614, in which Marguerite Menoz is identified as the wife of Bastian Malherbe, and in the second of these, she had loaned 1000 florins to Antoine Dutoit and his son Felix. Thus, her nephews Pierre and Bernard Malherbe, must be sons of a brother of her first husband. At least Bernard seems to have lived at Orbe, but by 1647-1648 we find a Bernard Malherbe, this time with a daughter Esther at least 15 years of age, running La Croix Blanche at Moudon. Did Marguerite also have a son Bernard by her first husband?

As Jeanne M. Herrick, married to Richard Victor in 1976. Family records indicate they moved to Sydney, Australia about 1977-78, where Richard found work piloting small planes. In the 1950 census of The Dalles, Wasco Co., Oregon, there is a family of Aram A. Herrick, age 33, born in Oregon, with wife Florence J. age 26 born in Australia, and sons Adrian A. age 4 born in Australia and Christopher R. age 3 born in Oregon. This couple was divorced in King Co., Washington 03 nov 1975, his name Aram Asa Herrick, residence Renton, WA, born in Oregon 21 jun 1916, and her name as Jean M. Herrick, maiden name Meredith, residence Seattle, born in Australia 21 sep 1923. They had been married in Sydney, Australia 30 sep 1944.
Her name is written very clearly in the church records at Nyon, even though she is not mentioned in the traditional genealogy as a wife of Niklaus Gatschet. It is possible that the pastor misunderstood her name and that she was indeed the same Maria Megger. The church records at Oron show Niklaus and his wife Maria Megger on several occasions from 1635 through 1639, but no children baptised there. It is very likely that several more children were born, their baptisms still not discovered.
Habitant at Geneva.
[14860] Contract of 01 mar 1729 recorded by J.-A. Rilliet, notary at Geneva.
