This family lived in the part of Portsmouth, NH that was set apart as Greenland. The first book of Greenland records was lost by fire. He was taxed there at least from 1743 to 1761, which is taken as an indication of the time of his death. His birth date is estimated by reference to the baptism of his first child and the fact that he was already married to his second wife by that time. Perhaps other references can be found in neighboring towns to further define the dates.

This is believed to be the James Uran who signed a petition to the Masonian proprietors for a charter of Sutton, NH, and who drew lots 78 in the first division and lot 50 in the second division of that town. The records of Sutton state he was from Haverhill. Dates of the Sutton transactions need to be reviewed, as they will establish the latest possible birthdate for him, as well as the timing of the family's connection to Haverhill.

[53] adminstration of his estate was granted to his father Richard Uran of Derryfield, NH 23apr1753. Therefore, it is likely James was not married. Essex Co. MA Probate Records.

Pvt. in Revolution, pension granted 19jan1833. (file S17164)

Pension File: S14745, lived at Putney, VT at time of enlistment, 1779, served in various units based at Putney. He moved to Pawlet, VT 27feb1787, lived there until 04jun1821, when he moved to Dorset, VT. This account, from the actual deposition, does not agree with the NGS Abstracts of Rev. War Pension Appls. Deed records such as Pawlet VT bk. 7 p. 113 indicate he lived in Pawlett (1812) or at least owned land there (as early as 1804, when he sells 24 acres to Ozias Clark, buying it back in 1807). Death date not established. Pension Application says he enlisted in 1779 at Putney in place of his father who was drafted for a tour of duty in the Vermont Militia.

[65] Transcribed 1840 pensioner's census lists James Wrin, but the microfilm is clear: James Urin age 79, living alone, as of 01 jun 1840. 1810 census of Pawlet records also 34 sheep, spinning wheels, and linen & wool cloth.

Jeremiah is tentatively assigned as the child of James and Lucy Uran. Records of Bennington Co. need to be searched to confirm this. Jeremiah was living in the town of Rupert in 1830 and 1840 (but in the 1840 census, shown as Jeremiah Ulin, a name otherwise unknown there, and with children corresponding to those in the 1830 census, approximately). No other Jeremiah Uran's are known, nor any other Uran's in Bennington Co. Not yet located in 1850 census.
