He is apparently the same Mermetus Mathey of Ballens who died before 1419, leaving a widow Jaqueta and (at least) three daughters, Francesia, Aymoneta, and Perroneta (ACV C XX 18/3, dated 19 mar 1419). His daughter Francesia, but not the other two daughters, is mentioned as a property owner, apparently not married, in a group of reconnaissances from 1452 for properties at Ballens subject to Jean de Menthon, coseigneur d'Aubonne (ACV IB 296b/896).

The terriers say that the wife of Claude Mayor, at least the one from whom the children descend, was Mermette, daughter of Jaques Matthey dit de Ballens son of Pierre. The Mathey family was known by the alias "de Ballens", but the reason for this has not yet emerged. We did not find any mention of a Mathey family at Ballens in the terriers so far examined, nor do the terriers covering Mollens provide any hints.

The terriers give him the alias de Ballens. A direct connection to the de Ballens family has not been discovered.

It is reasonably clear from the early terriers, such as Fg 2, from 1337, covering Mollens and Ballens, that the Mathey family of Mollens and/or Ballens originated from Matheus dictus Fol (Fouz, Foux, Faux, Fauz, Folz, Folz, etc.), already deceased by 1337. De Ballens seems to have been a separate family, so it is likely that Mathey alias de Ballens stems from a marriage between these two families.
