He is mentioned as a relative of several families, including Daniel Dutoit of Chavannes (husband of Abraham's daughter Catherine), Abraham Dutoit of Chavannes (husbant of Abraham Buttet's daughter Jeanne), and others.
A Butet family from Ferlens settled at Bischwiller, Bas-Rhin, France. The first was Jean Butet, born 1632, died in 1687. He was the father of Abraham Butet who married Judith Bonzon of Pompaples in 1696. She was born 1671 and died 1726. They had at least seven children (noted at Bischwiller). Abraham also had a sister Madelaine 1658-1736, who married Jean Graz. The family at Bischwiller has not yet been identified in the Swiss records.

Was she perhaps Christine Louise, the daughter of Pierre Buttet, marchand and bourgeois de Moudon, and Jeanne widow of the late André Monet, who were married at Moudon 14 apr 1626, baptised at Moudon 20 jun 1627? Or were there two Pierre Buttet's at Moudon at that time? The church registers at Moudon do not seem to indicate more than one Pierre Buttet, but the family could have been living in another parish.
She was certainly the sister of Marie Dorothée Buttet, wife of Pierre Dutoit, who were the parents of the notary Isaac Dutoit. There is one citation about Marie Dorothée that indicates she had a brother Denis and a sister Claudine, wife of Pierre Bize (Benoit Giraudet, notary, 14 sep 1659). The only Denis noted at Moudon was the son of Pierre Buttet and his wife (not named in the church register), baptised 20 mar 1638. Beyond that, Marie Dorothée's testament of 1670 names her late father and her sisters (apparently, her brother Denis had already died).
Christine's testament dated 06 jan 1685 recorded by Jaques Crausaz, notary at Moudon, names sons Baltazard, Pierre, Philippe, Samuel, David. There are several important documents relating to her estate:

[Translation: In the name of God Amen, let it be known and evident to all that whereas Christine Buttet, widow of the late Daniel Dutoit dit André of Chavannes, seeing that by the grace of God she is incommodated and her health deteriorating, yet of good memory and clear understanding, considering that death is certain for all and that hour and coming of it uncertain, and that it is better to prepare for it than to be surprised by it, wishing to dispose of the estate with which God has freely blessed her in this world, She has made her Testament and declaration of her last wishes by the hand of the Notary undersigned. First, after a most pious and Christian resignation to the mercy of God in our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, She has given and bequeathed by Charity and Christian motivation To the poor of the Village of Chavannes, two florins six sols. Item, having reflected on the good friendship and assiduous assistance to her rendered by Estiennaz DuPuis her daughter-in-law, wife of her son Baltazard Dutoit, during her incapacity and old age, For these Causes and in Remuneration for such good works and for the assistance that she will continue to render during the time that it may please God to leave her in this world, She the Testatrice has given and bequeathed to her Each and Every one of her linens and clothes of any kind whatever, with her Cap. And this in consideration of what their other married brothers Pierre and Baltazard were given at the time of their marriages from the undivided interest of the Household. And in as much as the foundation of all good and valid Testaments is the institution of one or more legitimate Heirs, for each and every one of the other movable and immovable estate whatever, namely Pierre, Philippe, Samuel, Baltazard, and David Dutoit her beloved Children, and this by equal portions from her said estate after the aforesaid prerogative to the said three sons who are not married, by these said heirs, she wishes that all of her debts and bequests by paid and satisfied also in equal portions. Further, the said Testatrice wishes here to add as an express Condition that in case the said David her son should marry Jeanne Badoux of Moudon, he will be deprived and removed from the prerogative that she has made for the two other unmarried brothers, as she not agreed to this marriage and that he should follow her wishes and consent in this matter. Revoking all other pretending Testaments for the said estate by means of five sols. Breaking and annulling all other pretending Testaments or donations that she may have made previously. 20 feb 1685 (Isaac Dutoit, notary): whereas by the testament of Christine Buttet, widow of "Daniel André" of Chavannes, dated 06 jan 1685, recorded by Jaques Crausaz, made certain provisions for her married and unmarried sons, a settlement is made, with the advice of relatives Abraham Frossard and the notary Isaac Dutoit. The son Samuel is out of the country, and Isaac signs as "cousin desdites parties".
05 feb 1686 (Isaac Dutoit, notary): Further settlement and agreement regarding the testament of Christine Buttet (or Buttex). The notary calls it "Prononciation des Cousins de Chavannes", in other words, his own cousins. The mediators included Thomas Dutoit the elder and Thomas Dutoit the younger, as well as Pierre and Baltazard Dutoit, brothers of Philippe, who is disputing with his brother David.
05 apr 1686 (Isaac Dutoit, notary): "le Cousin Dutoit de l'Aigle a resceu d'Isaac Cortesy de Dompierre à Compte de la lettre de Rente de 315 florins signé Egrège Jaccaud (?) du 9 juin 1639 créé en faveur de feu Maître Isaac Demierre..." The "cousin" is apparently Philippe Dutoit, then owner of the inn called the Aigle (Eagle) — but to the best of our knowledge, this is not Philippe son of Christine Buttet! Is the notary telling us about a different relationship, or is there a different meaning for the passage, such as a reference to the town of Aigle?

Baptised as Daniel but apparently the same person as the Daniel François Buttet who married Dorothée Crinsoz.
An interesting document (ACV P Loys 720, 11 jan 1640, dated at Lausanne) concerns a settlement in which Daniel François and Isaac Buttet, sons of the late Guillaume, extinguished a claim against them by the Loys family for 1360 florins by ceding to them various financial instruments with a nominal value of 1504 florins. The Buttet brothers were represented in this transaction by Marc de Saussure, professor of theology at the Académie de Lausanne. The claim stemmed from the estates of Pierre and Claude de Loys, father and son, and also from the estate of Urbaine Challet, Dame de St.-Georges, who had married Pierre Louis Loys.

He appears in the Matrikel of the University of Heidelberg, 1587, and in February of that year also at Basel (Guielmus Buttetus Muldunensis). It is tempting to identify the Pierre Buttet of Moudon noted at Heidelberg the same year as his brother. Another source says that Guillaume was also Châtelain d'Yverdon at some point. He is identified as Châtelain, but presumably of Moudon, in baptisms there 1627-1628.
The contract for his second marriage, to Jeanne Loys, was recorded 03 apr 1597 by Pierre George, notary at Moudon.
He made a settlement with his brother Pierre regarding their inheritance from their father the late Egrège Antoine Buttet, 22 nov 1593 (Pierre George, notary at Moudon, ACV DL 46/1 fol. 55). Pierre had already sold his share of some of this property, including vineyards at Cully and Grandvaux (ACV DL 46/1 fol. 21, dated 13 mar 1590).
The marriage contract of George de Crousaz and Louise Loys, 09 aug 1607 (ACV P Loys 911), identifies Guillaume Buttet and Daniel Quisard (Seigneur de Crans) as brothers-in-law of the bride.
