In the margin is the notation, "Ajouté p 506 La France Moderne," likely made by the author of that work during his researches!

Hopefully, the author of La France Moderne was able to get a better reading in person! The parish of St. Voy is the modern Le Mazet-St.-Voy (Haute-Loire). We have not been able to identify the Baronnie de Montgiraud.
Jean-Paul Blettery (http://www.bletteryjp.fr) notes that a Barthelemy Johannot from Ambert, whose wife was apparently Marie Buisson (a child of this couple baptised at Ambert in 1604) was working at Vienne (Isère) in 1618: "Contrat d’achat de papier établi par maître Combet, notaire à Lyon du 10 novembre 1618 (Communication de Madame Henriette Pommier): Un contrat pour vente de papier fut rédigé chez maître Combet de Lyon le 10 novembre 1618 entre Paul Frollon, marchand libraire de Lyon et Barthelemy Janot et Pierre Buisson, beaux frères et marchands papetiers, originaire d’Ambert en Auvergne. Au moment de la signature de ce document, les deux papetiers travaillaient au moulin à papier, établi sur la paroisse de Saint-Martin de Vienne. Le contrat de vente porta sur la livraison de 600 rames de papier missel de même grandeur, longueur, blanc et bien collé que celle de la feuille remise comme échantillon au notaire, chaque rame du poids de quatorze livres. La livraison devait se faire au sieur Claude Michel, agissant pour le compte de Paul Frollon en la ville de Tournon dans six mois, moyennant le prix et somme de trente deux sols et six deniers chaque rame. Pierre Buisson ne signa pas au bas de l’acte. Par contre, Barthelemy Janot signa fort bien «Johannot». Ainsi que nous l’apprends ce contrat, Barthelemy Janot et Pierre Buisson étaient beaux-frères, parenté à établir probablement par Marie Buisson. (Un enfant de Barthelemy Janot et de Marie Buisson naquit à Ambert en janvier 1604 photo 9 de 1604.) Barthelemy Janot ne laissa pas de traces dans les registres paroisiaux de Vienne." It seems unlikely to us that this is the same Barthelemi who appears at Annonay around 1638 and who died in 1673, if for no other reason than that he would have been almost 100 years of age when he died and around 75 at the time his last child was born. Rather, he is more likely to have been a brother or cousin of the Anthoine Johannot who seems to be the eldest of the family at Annonay. (The reference in the church records of Ambert is to the register 3 E 3 48, fol. 8v of the modern, pencilled foliation, Archives Départementales du Puy-de-Dôme.)
[3139] It is not completely certain which Barthelemi Johannot died on this date. This is the only one we know who would be an adult in 1673. He was present as late as 22 feb 1673, at the wedding of his son Mathieu to Marie Riou.

This may be the infant buried 18 jan 1696, age and given name not recorded; however, Le Moine gives references to documents of Morges (Q 230 p. 175) and Annonay (4E9 p. 30) for the 1737 date. Le Moine identifies the unnamed infant who was buried at Morges 18 feb 1696 (I disagree as to the reading of this date) as another child of Mathieu Johannot and Marie Fressenel.

Birthdate from Allgemeines Lexikon der bildenden Künstler is 1798. Others give 1788, and one edition of Larousse even gives 1783. We strongly suspect that one of the earlier dates is correct, because we think it likely this is the Charles Johannot "of France" who fathered an illegitimate child Charles Marc Johannot, son of Anthoinette Tréboux. By the time his birth was registered at Rolle, Charles had fled, presumably to France.
