A Jean Scalé with wife Marie is known from the naturalization record of his son Peter Scalé in England. Since the Bernard Scalé who died in 1743 in England names Peter as his brother, it follows that Bernard is also a son of Jean.
Possibly the same Jean, with wife Marie (de) Ferrenc (or Ferrenq) is known as the son of Antoine Scalé, and had a son Guillaume who died at Castres 14 may 1679, the burial record signed by Jean Scalé and by Guillaume's grandfather Antoine Scalé (the signature matches that of Antoine in many other records). Unfortunately, these burial records do not give ages. The other children (with the exception of Etienne, included tentatively here, see below) were baptised at Castres, the records name both parents. There are some gaps in the records at Castres and also at Roquecourbe. In addition, the records of the parish of Lacrouzette, where Bernard Scalé served as minister for nearly a decade, have been completely lost. But it is still possible that there is some mention of the brothers Pierre and Bernard somewhere in the catholic church books after 1685, or else in the registers of the notaries or the courts.
The Etienne Scalé "of Castres", born about 1695, who was married to Elizabeth Jarnacq in Amsterdam 03 jun 1725, may be another son of this Jean. At his marriage, he was accompanied by his "neef" (in Dutch, this word could mean either cousin or nephew) Jean Scalé, who should therefore have been born before 1700 in order to be an adult at that time. The only Jean Scalé of the correct age then known to have been living in Amsterdam is the son of the minister Bernard, and if Etienne is another son of the present Jean Scalé, that would make Etienne and the younger Jean first cousins. Therefore, we show Etienne here as well, pending further evidence.

When the notary Jean Scalé died in 1681, Lieutenant en la judicature de Montfa, habitant aux Fournials, his burial record was witnessed by Pierre Soubt (he signed Soulbz) and Bernard Chabbert his grandsons. These grandsons turn out to be Pierre, son of Jean Soutz and Louise Descalé, born in 1656, and "Bernat", son of Jean Chabbert and Anne Descalé, born in 1657. In order for the notary Jean Scalé to have produced the daughters Anne and Louise, whose marriages are found in 1647 and 1655, respectively, he must have had another wife long before his marriage to Marie Fosse in 1661.
