There is disagreement among various sources concerning the sons of Mathieu Johannot who settled in Germany. Larousse (various editions) and others occasionally mention François as the grandfather of Tony Johannot the artist. We are following instead the information in La France Moderne, although it is known to contain many errors. Wife attributed by La France Moderne, Marie Hoffstad, is actually the wife of Pierre Johannot, Anna Maria Hoffstad.
However, it seems likely François did marry, for it appears he would be the François Johannot whose death is noted in records of the French Reformed Church at Frankfurt 22 sep 1792, widower. This man may or may not be the same person as the François Johannot whose confession of faith was made at Frankfurt 02 mar 1760, with the notation "Le dit est retourné en France". If this statement means what it says, we would have to infer that the subject had come from France originally, and so could really be the brother of Pierre. Perhaps he continued to shuttle between the Johannot families in both places.

This appears to be the only Françoise Johannot, after the one mislabeled for Catherine is excluded! The marriage contract identifies the parents as Mathieu Johannot and Catherine Pinet, although the only Françoise in the protestant registers at Annonay is attributed instead to Jean Johannot and Catherine Bertand. Among the witnesses at the marriage contract were Barthelemi Johannot, uncle, Pierre Johannot, brother, and Pierre Diaquan, brother in law, which helps us settle on Mathieu as the true father.
