Did George d'Asperlin marry twice? Or are we dealing with two men of the same name, whose position in the d'Asperlin family is not well established? Is the George d'Asperlin who married Louise Marie Seigneux the same one who married Gingelle de Gingins, or is the former the son of the latter?
The corresponding marriage contract, dated 22 apr 1626 (Samuel François, notary of Lausanne, ACV DG 117/3, fol. 25v), identifies him as the son of the late George, not Joseph, in his lifetime Seigneur de Balegues and Conseigneur de Bayoes (=Bavois), and calls the bride Marie daughter of Jean Baptiste Seigneulx le jeusne, citoyen et Banderet de Lausanne:
Mariage entre noble George Asperlin fils de feu noble George Asperlin vivant Seigneur Baleygues et Seigneur de Bayoes, et Damoiselle Marie Seigneux.
Au nom de Dier amen, soit à tous notoire et manifeste que l'an de grace courant mille six centz vingtesix et le vingtdeuxiesme jour du moys d'Apvril, par devant les notaires jurez sonbsignez, et presents les tesmoings soubs nommés, se sont personnellement constituez et establis les parties cy apres nommés, assavoir Noble George Asperlin filz de feu noblet et prudent George Asperlin en son vivant Seigneur de Balegues et Conseigneur de Bayoes traictant à son nom propre et l'advis d'une partie de ses parents et aliez d'une part, et noble et prudent Jean Baptiste Seigneux citoyen et banderet de Lausanne assisté aussy d'une partie de ses parentz et aliez traictant au nom de Damoiselle Marie Seigneux sa bien-aymée fille d'aultre part. Lesquelles parties bien advisées et dheuement de leurs faictz et droictz bien informées pour eulx leurs hoirs et successeurs quelconques, ont faict et font entr-eulx les traictez et conventions de mariage telles que s'ensuict. Premierement ledit Noble Asperlin et ladite Damoyselle Marie du vouloir authorité et propre consentement dudit Sieur son pere, ont commis et prometent en bonne foye de se prendre et retenir l'ung l'aultre pour mary et femme ligitimes et se faire espouser en l'assemblée des fidelles selon l'ordonnance de Dieu et les loix souveraines declairans ne sçavoir chose qui se puisse apporter empeschement, en contemplation duquel mariage et affin qu'il sorte mieulx son effect, le prenommé Noble Seigneux pere de ladite espouze future à constitué et par ces presentes constitue et ordonne en dot et mariage de ladite Marie sa fille, pour tous droict, partz, partages et portions qu'il pourroit avoir et pretendre en tous et ung chascung ses biens patternelz, fraternelz et sororielz sauf et reservé les biens matternelz et la loyale escheute si elle advenoit, assavoir la somme de quattre mille florins petits poids bonne monnoye courante au pays soluables selon les bons us et coustumes dudit Lausanne jouxte laquelle la present contract de mariage est faicte et passé, aussy promis ledit Noble Seigneux de fournir ladite espouze sa fille de vestementz honnorables pour le jour de ses nopces selon son estate et qualité avecq declaration expresse que au cas il constituat plus grande somme en dot de mariage à ses aultres filles, il en donnera aultant à ladite sepouze future sans contredite. Dailleurs ledit noble Asperlin espoux future pour meillieur entretien de l'amour conjugale qu'il ha à son espouze, constitue, donne et ordonne à icelle en augment de mariage la somme de deux mille florins telz que dessus, et a promis et promet de munir et apporter ladite son espouze selon son estate et qualité de mondries et joyaulx d'or et d'argent poru le jour solemnisation de leurs nopces, promctantz lesdites parties contrahactantes pour eulx et les leurs que dessus en bonne foye et obligations de tous et ung chascung leurs biens meubles et immeubles presentz et advenir quelconques, d'avoir agrée tenir et observer le contenu des presentes sans y vouloir contrevenir ny aux contrevenants consentir, particulierement ledit Noble Asperlin espoux ha promis d'assigner, asseurer et suffisamment hypothequer tout ce qu'il recepvra de ladite espouze et au nom d'icelle avecq ladite augmentation sus tous et sufizantz assignaux, affin qu'au temps advenir au cas que restitution der mariage auroit lieu (que demeurt au bon plaisir de Dieu) elle ou les siens le puissent les percepvoir et retirer jouxte la predicte coustume de Lausanne tous empeschements cessantz, à peyne de tous damps, interestz et missions qui en pourroyent survenir, renonceantz en oultre lesdites parties à tous droictz, loix, us, status, coustumes, libertés et franchises par lesquelz l'on pourroit aux presentes contrevenir, mesmement au droict disant la generalle renonciation rien valoir si la specialle ne precede, ni au contraire. Datté et faict audit Lausanne en la maison dudit Noble Seigneulx soubz le sceau sur ce requis et signature desdits notaires le jour susdit, en presence de Noble, prudent et treshonnoré Seigneur Benjamin Rosset Bourguemeister dudit Lausanne Seigneur de Wflens la Ville, Sebastian de Gingins Baron de La Serra, Albert de Gingins Seigneur d'Escublens, Jeremie de Gumoens Conseigneur dudit lieu, Joseph de Gingins Seigneur de Hontzigue, Jean Baptiste Seigneux l'aisné citoyen et consellier dudit Lausanne, Jean Malliardoz Chastellain du Culliez, Daniel Rosset citoyen et Grossaultier dudit Lausanne, Daniel Dyverdon citoyen dudit Lausanne, et Gamaliel de la Tour docteur medecin, bourgeois de Vevey tous parents et aliez desdites parties, prins à tesmoings.
Bearing on this question is the partage between the two sons of Joseph Asperlin, dated 14 jan 1600 and with additional provisions of 12 jul 1604. In the course of this settlement between George, the elder of two brothers, and Antoine, the following provision: "Item, a esté arresté entre lesdicts nobles compartissantz que les fleurs et prises tant en vin que graines se partageront par moitié, en ce que à bonne volonté et pour recompense des vaccances dudict Seigneur premier né, et de madame sa femme, icelluy dict Seigneur premier né levera sur la part dudict Seigneur puisné son frere, ung muydz et demy de froment mesure d'Orbe, et ung chair et demy de vin que sera sur le tout de l'indivision trois muydz de froment et trois chars de vins, ascavoir ung char de vin de la coste, ung chair de vin vieulx, et ung char du creu dudict Bayoes." If we have understood the often contorted legal verbiage of the time, it appears that, because George and his wife had frequently been absent, and that George had therefore consumed less than an equal share of the wines and grain of the estates, he was entitled to three additional barrels of wine etc. Thus we see that the George who was the son of Joseph had already been married for some time prior to 1600 — long enough for his brother to consume a formidable quantity of wine. This fact immediately suggests that the marriage of 1626 concerns the son of the present George.

Her testament of 25 aug 1698, with codicils of 25 and 30 jul 1699, was probated at Lausanne 12 aug 1699 (ACV Bg 13bis/1 fol. 174v): Jeanne Marie Asperling de Balleigue fille de feu Noble Samuel d'Asperling Seigneur de Balleigue, niece Jeanne Marie Asperling daughter of the late Noble Joseph Asperling, her other nieces excluded, " elles m'ont toutes fort irités ", everything else to her "treschere et bien aimée et inseparable amie", Jeanne Louyse Roux, wife of Monsr. de Ropraz, minister. Codicil names nieces Anne Estiennaz, Babin, and Marion. Second codicil names nephew Joseph Samuel Asperling, indicates that Babin and Marion are the sisters of Anne Estiennaz, but appears to call them Susanne Benigne and Marie Asperling.

Admitted to the bourgeoisie of Lausanne 13 oct 1651 (AVL D 438 fol. 50v), at that time called Seigneur de Ballaigues. A list of the bourgeoisie as of January, 1688 (AVL D 441/3) indicates he had at that time four sons: Benjamin (who himself had at least one son, not named in the list), François Frederich, Jean Salomon, and François Louis. His son Joseph was already dead. Joseph's son Joseph Samuel is apparently the one listed separately on the 1688 list as Samuel Joseph d'Asperlin.
His testament of 30 mar 1694 (ACV Bg 13bis/1 fol. 134) provides many details: Noble Samuel D'Asperlin Seigneur de Balleigues, residual heirs his two sons by his second marriage with Noble Elizabeth Warney : François Fridrich and Jean Salomon d'Asperlin for 2/3, the other 1/3 to the children of his late son by a previously marriage Noble Joseph d'Asperlin (whose wife was Jeanne Françoise de Praromand), namely Joseph Samuel d'Asperlin his grandson, and his granddaughters, sisters of Joseph Samuel, presently numbering 4. Also two daughters by his first and second marriages, Nobles Jeanne Marie and Louyse Pauline. Also granddaughter Noble Marie Magdelaine d'Asperlin, daughter of his late son by his first wife Anne Seigneulx, the late Noble Benjamin d'Asperlin (whose wife was Marie Catherine Chemilleret). Mentions his late brother-in-law Thobie Masset, chatellain d'Yverdun. Uncle Noble Jean Louis Seigneulx, brother-in-law Jean Louys Gaudard Seigneur de Corselles, cousin Noble Jean Louys Seigneulx. Cousin Samuel de Praromand.
Missing from the list of heirs is François Louis, alive in 1688 but apparently already dead by 1694 and without children. There is also a testament for Jeanne Marie in 1698, which establishes that she must be a daughter of Samuel by his first marriage, because she names only her nieces and nephew who are children of Joseph. Because of the wording of the testament of Samuel, the other of his daughters, Louise Pauline, must be from his second marriage.
Accounts of the estate of his son Benjamin covering the period 1694-1698 are found in a register at the Archives de la Ville de Lausanne (AVL A 53, fols. 143-155). Various sums from Samuel's estate had not yet been paid (Benjamin's daughter was still a minor), and there were additional complications resulting from the fact that Benjamin's marriage settlement had not yet been paid in full. The proceedings mention the date of death of Samuel.

Were there two Asperlin's near Aubonne in the 1630's? An Anthoine Asperlin with wife Salomé, and a Sebastien Asperlin with wife Salomé de Lavigny are mentioned about the same time in the baptismal registers at Yens. Besides Chatelain d'Aubonne, the title Sr. de Bavois is mentioned. Later records specify simply Sebastien.
He is apparently the Sébastien Asperlin, de Bavois, who was killed in a duel with Jaques François Olivier, as reported in an item in the papers of the Senarclens family (ACV P Château de Vufflens 597E, dated 09 dec 1651 or possibly 1657, a contemporary extract from the "manuel de la ville de Berne"—the date should be checked against records in Bern).
