An interesting transaction recorded 25 nov 1588 by Claude Mayor, notary at Aubonne (ACV DB 26/7 fol. 9v), involves Thievent Monod acting for his children by his late wife Jaquemaz Roguin of Mollens and on behalf of her late son François by her first husband Jaques Baudin. Is this the same Thivent Monod, son of the late Claude, who had married Jeanne Cuvit in 1581? The same one who was later married to Catherine Guibert? Were these marriages among those that are now illegible or incomplete in the church records of Bière? Only 7 marriages were recorded at Bière in 1584, 6 in 1585, and 2 in 1586, followed by a long gap before the next marriage, in 1602. The baptisms for this interval, however, compensate to some extent for the gap—they often give the name of the mother of the child.
The transaction of 25 nov 1588 continues, asking payment from Claude Baudin of Mollens for the expenses that Thievent incurred for the support of the said François "pour l'avoyr nourry longtemps". The matter was put before arbiters Jaques Convers, Pierre Mayor, and Claude Mestral, who decided that Baudin owed Monod 220 florins.
The first husband of Jaquemaz Roguin, Jaques Baudin, made a testament 22 sep 1580, naming his wife Jaquemaz, his brother Claude (perhaps the same Claude Baudin involved in the dispute in 1588?), and an unborn child who presumably turned out to be the unfortunate and expensive François (DB 26/3 fol. 58). The date of the testament strongly suggests that Jaquemaz was the second wife of Thievent Monod, since he married Jeanne Cuvit 29 jan 1581, less than six months after the death of her first husband. It is not known which of his three wives was the mother of his known children, but at least two children must have come from his second marriage.
Thivent Monod acted as the guardian of Claude Monod "le jeune" son of the late Claude, brother of Thivent, in many transactions recorded by the notary Claude Monod of Ballens (ACV DB 26, and after his brother's death notably 26/8 fol. 101, 15 mar 1599). The notary took some care to distinguish this Claude Monod "le jeune" son of Claude from two other men of the same name who were alive at the same time, both sons of Pierre Monod, known as Claude Monod "le jeune" and Claude Monod "l'aisné".

Since one of the sponsors of the baptism of his daughter Jeanne Elizabeth, 19 jan 1672, was Elizabeth Monod, wife of the minister Estienne De Cologny, it is likely that Urbain is another child of Jaques Monod and Anne Marquis. Some guidance as to his probable birthdate might be gleaned from that of his second wife in 1635. He and his second wife are mentioned in Olivier Dessemontet's "Le fief Mestral à Saubraz 1510-1717, ou la curieuse histoire d'une petite terre noble vaudoise", Revue historique vaudoise 69:49-78 (1961, see pp. 64ff).
The critical edition of the Livre de Recteur of the Académie de Genève adds Isaac François Monod as a son of Urbain, possibly based on information from Geneva.
Urbain is cited with his brother Jaques Monod "de Berolle" in 1696 (ACV DK 76, a minutaire of Estienne Vincent Mayor, notary at Morges).

Baptism appears to indicate a son, but first marriage record includes a partial baptismal date and is clearly a female. The second marriage date, indicated in the baptismal record, is repeated in the baptismal record of her first child by her second husband. Thus, all the records are tied together, even though the record of the second marriage is missing and the record of the first is incompletely legible.
