He was a resident and property owner at Féchy at least as early as 1568. He does not seem to be related to the Monod family of Ballens. The Monod family at Féchy appears to derive from an Aymonet Jaquenod whose great-great grandon Bernard Monod is the subject of a reconnaissance in 1537.

His death record says Jean Nicolas Monod.
His testament dated 17 sep 1796 was recorded by the notary Jaques Monod (still to be identified). It was probated at Aubonne 04 oct 1796 (ACV Bib 168, at the end of the volume). By that date, his daughter Jeanne Georgette had married Etienne Croisier, and his son David Marc Louis was still a minor (meaning, presumably, under the age of 25). The testament names his wife, Jeanne Françoise Barau, and as residual heirs, his two children David Marc Louis and Jeanne Georgette. In the probate proceedings, there is mention of a marriage contract of 27 apr 1768, an "assignal" dated 24 jan 1775, and another dated 24 mar 1778.

This Pierre, at least once clearly identified as a son of Claude, is cited several times in the terriers (although some of those citations are vague and contradictory) and also, mostly after his death, in the records of the notary Claude Mayor of Ballens (ACV DB 26). One reason that he is mentioned in so many documents is that he seems to have had two sons named Claude, a situation that is frequently encountered in the 16th Century. In addition, the elder of his two sons named Claude had also produced a son named Claude, and then died. This situation left two contemporaries identified as "Claude Monod le jeune" of Ballens, who were distinguished by their parentage. Thus, the records speak of "Claude Monod le jeune fils de feu Claude Monod" and of "Claude Monod le jeune fils de feu Pierre Monod". These two men were sometimes parties to the same transaction.
A transaction dated 18 may 1579 (Claude Mayor, notary, DB 26/5 fol. 3) mentions an adjoining property at St. Livres owned by the heirs of the late Pierre Monod, the earliest indication of his death located so far.
One of the more interesting transactions in the records of Claude Mayor (DB 26/3 fol. 59v, 17 may 1579) is a settlement of a dispute between Bernard Sallier (Salliet) of St. Livres for himself and his nephew Alexandre (family name not listed) versus Claude l'esné and Claude Monod le jeune, sons of the late Pierre Monod de Ballens. Sallier had asked restitution of the marriage settlement of the late Marguerite Sallier, sister of Bernard and mother of the said Alexandre, and also late wife of the late Pierre Monod father of the said Claude Monod. From the awkward wording, we infer that Marguerite Salliet was not the mother of the children of the late Pierre Monod. This record is the fair copy from a "registre". The corresponding "minute" of the same transaction (DB 26/5 fol. 2v, same date) is even more explicit: "Bernard Salliet agissant tant à son nom que de Alexandre son mepveux d'une part, et Claude Monod l'eysné et Claude Monod le jeusne de Ballens d'autre part... Bernard Salliet ... demandoyt audits Monod restitution du mariage de feue Marguerite Salliet seur dudit Bernard feue femme de feuz Pierre Monod pere desdits Claude Monod..." The amount of the settlement was 25 florins. In this case, the word transcribed as "desdits", indicating that there were two sons of Pierre named Claude, was written "desd" followed by the customary descending stroke indicating "dit" or "dits". The fact that "des" rather than "de" was written proves the case.
The two brothers Claude were still acting together as late as 17 jun 1582 (DB 26/5 fol. 55).
The same notary (DB 26/4 fol. 15, dated 01 jun 1571) recorded a transaction involving Pierre Monod of Ballens and Pierre Convers, cause ayant de Jean Monod, and relating to a claim of 1/2 interest formerly held by Jean Monod on certain properties that Pierre Monod had pledged as security for his wife's marriage settlement, recorded originally by Jean Aubert on 10 oct 1557. The name of his wife is given as Jaquemaz, daughter of the late Jean Bovert, or possible Levert, or perhaps even Aubert, of Pampigny. The name Aubert seems the most likely reading, as a family of that name is known in Pampigny at this period. Jaquemaz Aubert, then, appears to have been the first wife of Pierre Monod.

When he appears as a sponsor for a baptism at Ballens in 1752, he is called Pierre Louis Gabriel Monod of Yens, although no trace of him has yet been found in the church records of Yens.
