There were two contemporary Francois Mayors in 1569, one son of late Claude, the other son of Pierre, living in adjoining houses. The identification of Pierre son of Francois Mayor in later records is tenuous: Francois son of Claude had a daughter Jaquemaz in 1578. A record in 1601 involves Jaquemaz daughter of the late Francois, her sister Pernon, and Pierre son of the late Francois, thus raising the possibility that all three are children on the same François. However, this Pierre seems to be much too old to have been the child of the younger François, "pupil" about 1568, who was the father of Jaquemaz and Pernon.
Further, dates of the children make this highly unlikely. The first group of children associated with Francois Mayor, here attached to Pierre, were all born well before 1570, as they were all of marriageable age by the 1580's. The second group consists of 2 daughters of Francois Mayor, one known to be daughter of Francois son of Claude. Both of these children were born around 1580. Thus, references to Pierre son of late Francois occurring in the 1590's and later would seem to apply to the grandson of Pierre exclusively, the other, younger Francois having no son Pierre, and possibly only the two daughters. Francois the son of Claude was still known as the "pupil" of Claude around 1570.
The assignment of Collarde Messieux, widow of the late Francois Mayor, to Francois the son of Pierre depends on a document of 02 sep 1581, Claude Mayor notary, regarding Collarde's remarriage to Claude Bergier, witnessed by another Francois Mayor. The latter is presumed to be the son of Claude, since no other is mentioned at that era, and therefore Collarde could not have been the wife of the younger Francois Mayor.

The eldest son of the elder Claude Mayor, he took the oath of office for the "mayorie" of Ballens at Romainmôtier on 07 jul 1556 (see the document to this effect in our notes on his father). Also implicit in this document is that he should have reached the age of 25, the age of majority.

This was the Francois who in 1569 was described as the "pupil" (orphan, and presumably below the age of majority) of the late Claude Mayor, and who at that time owned 1/2 of a house, the other half owned 3/4 by Mauris Saudan and 1/4 by Pierre Saudan, relationship not stated. In 1567, apparently the same François, son of Claude, is listed as a property owner at Ballens (Claude Mayor, notary, ACV DB 26/1, fol. 8v, 26 dec 1567). In that transaction, Claude is not identified as deceased. In 1581, Claude Mayor notary recorded a contract relating to the marriage of Collarde Messieux, widow of the late Francois Mayor. Among the witnesses was another Francois Mayor, so the younger Francois, the son of Claude, was not the husband of Collarde.
François Mayor "dit Graton" (this alias has been found, apart from this mention, only in connection with Claude Mayor and his widow Hennarde) was already dead by 13 oct 1583, when "his heirs" are mentioned as adjoining land owners at Ballens "eys Allegerz" in a document concerning a sale by Lyonnard Bachellard and his wife Genon Monod (ACV DB 26/5 fol. 72v).
In the terrier ACV Fh 31, we find François fils de feu Claude Mayor as the owner of various properties (fol. 96, but this terrier is a summary of other records and contains no dates). A related terrier, Fh 175, dates from 1622 and contains extensive paraphrases or perhaps quotations from a missing terrier of 1570 by Commissaires Dunant and Tripod. Fh 175 quotes a reconnaissance by Claude son of Jaques Mayor of Mollens acting as the guardian of François Mayor of Ballens, and the individual properties can be matched with those of François fils de feu Claude Mayor in Fh 31. Thus, François was still a minor as of 09 jun 1570, but had reached the age of 25 by the time Fh 31 was compiled, perhaps around 1580. The selection of Claude Mayor of Mollens as his guardian undoubtedly reflects a close relationship between them.
[51] "Pupil" means "ward", so it is likely he was adopted by Claude Mayor, and is actually a nephew of Claude. "Pupil" means "ward", so it is likely he was adopted by Claude Mayor, and is actually a nephew of Claude.

Noted as the sister of Jeanne Mayor whose husband was Vincent Valotton in a partage executed the same day and with the same witnesses as the sale by Michel Mayor's widow Barbille, 11 nov 1616, Claude Mayor notary. The interests of Francoise are handled by Isaac Monod, but it is not clear why he was chosen to act for her. By 30 sep1618 (ACV FH 173 fol. 485) she was the widow of the late Vulliesme DuNant vivant bourgeois de Lausanne. The property for which she and her sister Jeanne made a "reconnaissance" 04 oct 1618 (ACV FH 173 fol. 485) was a half interest held previously by her father Michel Mayor, the other half by Félix Mayor and his brother the minister Jaques Mayor. Since Félix was the son of Humbert Mayor, this division arose because Humbert was a brother of the father of Michel, but no proof has been located.

A document recorded by the notary Jean Pierre Monod, 02 jan 1703, shows that Jean François Mayor and his sisters Gabrielle and Jeanne made a settlement with Françoise Mayor, widow of the late Jean Louis De Venoge of Cossonay, regarding the estate of their aunt Françoise Jaquemard, wife of André Beliard who was living at Geneva. The document does not state that Françoise Mayor was a sister of Jean François Mayor, but that seems a likely conclusion.

The marriage record in the parish of La Sarraz (1745) says he was the son of Jean Pierre Mayor of Ballens. He appears to be the only Gabriel Mayor who would be about age 67 at the time of his death in 1790, a fact that is consistent with this parentage.
He is apparently the Gabriel Mayor who was the brother of Pierre François Félix Mayor, whose baptism has not been located. After the death of Pierre François Félix, one of his daughters had an illegitimate child. The sponsors at the baptism of the child were Gabriel Mayor and his wife Judith Berger, though the relationship is not actually stated. There does not seem to be any other Gabriel Mayor who could be the brother of Pierre François Félix.

One of the Gabriel Mayors, "assesseur et Conseiller de Ballens", was buried there 24 jan 1790, age 67. That man was almost certainly the son of Jean Pierre Mayor who was baptised 12 apr 1722. But that Gabriel was the one who married Judith Berger, his parentage clearly stated in his marriage record at La Sarraz. Consequently, the Gabriel Mayor who married Jeanne Susanne Convers must be someone else. One possibility is the Gabriel Félix Mayor, son of Jaques Isaac, who was born in 1720. Another is Isaac Gabriel, son of the same Jaques Isaac, born in 1719.
Whoever he was, this Gabriel Mayor's death does not seem to be recorded in the parish of Bière, and there is still no clear evidence as to his parentage.

Parentage of Gabrielle is not definitely established. Could she be connected with the Mayor families in Aubonne? This is suggested by the presence of Jaques Mayor and Gasparde Del'Harpe at a baptism in 1645. Or, since the 1740 terrier of Yens (ACV FH 246) reveals (fol.371) that as of 02 dec 1676, a vineyard at Yens was owned half by Philippe and Etienne Gabriel Mayor, and the other half by Félix Monod "charge ayant" of his brother Jean Louis Monod, is she somehow connected with the family of Philippe and Etienne Gabriel Mayor?
