Since he was marrying the widow of Jean Marc Monod, it seems very improbable that he was the Jean François, the younger brother of Jean Henri François Monod, who would have been about 7 years younger than the widow.

He may be the Jean Isaac Monod l'ainé de Ballens who died at Ballens 13 apr 1771, age about 75 years. If that is true, he must have moved from Berolle to Ballens at some point, perhaps because of his wife. His wife is evidently Susanne, wife of Jean Isaac Monod l'ainé de Ballens. who died in 1768.

He is apparently the "Isaac Monod de Berolle" who baptised a daughter in 1737. The other Isaac known to be "of Berolle" at that period, Isaac Gabriel, baptised a son at Berolle only a couple months later. That the Jean Isaac Monod of Berolle is this one, is proven by the appearance of his mother at the baptism of his daughter Elizabeth, 23 mar 1741. That record identifies Elizabeth Monod née Del'Harpe as the grandmother of the child. His father's name is given in his death record of 03 may 1797.

Son of the late Claude Monod the elder of Ballens, according to his marriage record. He made a "reconnaissance" 27 dec 1622 (apparently not 27 dec 1623, even though the document specifies "l'an de Salut pris à la nativité de nostre Seul Saveur et redempteur Jesus Christ"—in spite of this formulation, the year does not change on December 25 in this terrier, ACV Fh 175 fol. 123) indicating he had acquired the property in question by succession from his father Claude Monod, who in turn is implied to have had brothers Antoine and Tivent Monod living in 1570. The question of the brothers is a complicated one, because this terrier Fh 175 contains several different versions of the relationships of the Monod family that were all the result of paraphrases of a reconnaisance of 09 jun 1570 from a terrier that has so far not been located.
In fact, the reconnaissance of 1622 says that Jean Jaques was the son of Claude, and it also implies that this Claude was the same one who had brothers Antoine and Thivent who made a reconnaissance 09 jun 1570, but there are other paraphrases of apparently the same reconnaissance of 1570 that make the filiation extremely uncertain.
The church records contain a baptism dated 04 dec 1608 for Françoise, daughter of Jean Jaques Monod and "Fran." Mayor. There seems to be no other mention of this couple, and indeed, no other Jean Jaques Monod at Ballens in this period. Is it possible that the entry should have listed "Fran." Mayor as a sponsor, rather than as the mother of the child? For the moment, we place Françoise here as the first child of Jean Jaques and Lucrèce.
The question of the parentage of this Jean Jaques Monod may be resolved if he is the same Jean Jaques Monod son of the late Claude Monod l’eysné, assisted by his uncle Claude Monod, who sold property to Lyonnard Barbey 27 jan 1590 (Claude Mayor, notary, ACV DB 26/7 fol. 30). This reference can only apply to the two brothers both named Claude Monod, sons of Pierre. That fact that Jean Jaques is assisted by his uncle Claude Monod implies that Jean Jaques was still under the age of 25.

He might be the same Jean Louis Monod, Lieutenant de Ballens, who married Susanne Convers at Ballens, 20 feb 1714. He was certainly Lt. de Ballens as late as 1705, when he appeared as security for his brother Jean Pierre Monod, Châtelain de Mollens (ACV DK 76, minutaire, 26 jun 1705).
From the association with the Fazan family, he is also very likely the Jean Louis Monod de Ballens, bourgeois de Morges, who contracted to provide lumber for the fortifications of Geneva in 1692, signing himself "JL Monod" (AEG Notaire François Joly, vol. 15, fols 167v-168, 29 sep 1692). He was to be paid for 50 pieces of oak 20 to 16 feet in length, delivered to the buyer at the port of St. Prex, where they would be shipped by boat to Geneva. One of the witnesses was Jean Jaques Fazan of Apples:
