Genealogy by Henri de Mandrot published in the Recueil des Généalogies Vaudoises (1912), but not without some confusion and errors. Much of the information seems to have come from a collection by Charles Philippe du Mont, presently location not known. We are probably missing the baptisms of at least several of his children, because the early church records at Aubonne are lost.

Henri de Mandrot (Recueil des généalogies vaudoises, 1912) says that Collet (normally a nickname for Nicolletus or Nicolas) is also cited occasionally as Rollet, but this is probably only the result of misreading old documents! Collet is first noted as deceased in 1527, and in 1531 his brother Etienne Bégoz acts for Collet's sons Gabriel and Pierre.

He appears in 1531 as the uncle of the children of the late Collet Bégoz. A terrier for the property formerly belonging to the Confrérie du Saint Esprit of Aubonne (ACV Fh 159) includes a reconnaissance (1578) for Gabriel Bégoz, cordonnier, son of Etienne and grandson of Pierre. The property in question had originally been divided with the children of the late Collet Bégoz.

It is not completely clear which of the Gabriels this is. As of about 1578 there was a Gabriel Begoz notary, and another who was a cordonnier, son of Estievent son of Pierre. We follow Henri de Mandrot's genealogy (Recueil des généalogies vaudoises, 1912) as to the parentage of the notary, but de Mandrot evidently combined the Gabriel who was the son of the notary with the cordonnier, whose true parentage is given in a terrier for property formerly belonging to the Confrérie du Saint Esprit of Aubonne, 1578 (ACV Fh 159, this document also giving the name of the mother of Julien Bégoz, also missed by de Mandrot). The parentage of Gabriel Bégoz the notary (or, at least, one of them) as the son of Collet is confirmed in a terrier for the former Chapitre de Genève (AEG Titres et droits Cc 159, fol. 4, dated 24 nov 1562). In that terrier, marginal notations indicate that the next owners of the subject property were Françoise Bégoz, and then Pernette Vidalle or Vidallaz, daughter of Françoise Bégoz, evidently about 1602, the date appearing on the index of the subsequent owners that are listed in the margins of this terrier. Another copy of what appears to be the same terrier is at the ACV (Fh 157), not yet examined. The notations do not say that the Françoise in question was a daughter of this Gabriel, nor do they give the name of her husband.
Gabriel the son of Collet was still a minor in 1531, but appears as a witness in 1539, implying that he was by then at least 25 years of age. By 1578, he would have been at least age 64.
The idea that this Gabriel married a de Gilliers is somewhat problematical. De Mandrot refers to Louis de Charrière's "Le vidomnat de Morges et ses attributions" (Mémoires et documents publiés par la société d'histoire de la Suisse romande, 24:425-432, 1868), in which we find Noble Marie de Gilliet appearing in 1546 as guardian of her children by Gabriel Bégoz of Aubonne (who can thus be presumed to have died), nominating François Mandrot as the next Vidomne of Morges. Further, the same Marie de Gilliet was the grandmother of three brothers, François, Claude, and Jaques de Menthon, hereditary Vidomnes of Morges, and she was party to the sale by these three brothers of the Vidomnat of Morges to Their Excellencies of Bern in 1552. De Charrière found this confusing as well, and suggested that the children of Gabriel Bégoz were in fact Marie's grandchildren. Marie died before the end of 1552, when the sale was ratified by each of the three brothers or their respective guardians.
To us, these citations seem to indicate that Marie de Gilliet had married first Janus de Menthon (grandfather of the three brothers who held title to the Vidomnat of Morges), and second to Gabriel Bégoz of Aubonne, who died before 1546. It is likely that Gabriel held the Vidomnat by a delegation of some sort during the minority of the three brothers. This would have to be yet another Gabriel Bégoz, not the notary who was son of Collet. If this is correct, some of the citations of a Gabriel Bégoz prior to 1546 might not pertain to the notary who was still alive in 1578, and the line of descent would probably be missing a generation.
