[9684] Many attempts have been made to learn more about the family of Anna Maria Maurer, but with little success. The main problem is that there were several girls of that name baptized in the New Goshenhoppen Church during the early 1760's. Marriage records of that church reveal that a Peter Maurer married one C. (Catherine?) Berst 27 Sep. 1759. These could be her parents, but actual proof has not been found.
Many researchers use the spelling "Mowery" rather than Maurer for Anna Maria's surname. She had an aunt of the same name, who did use the spelling of Mowery, rather than Maurer, and the two are easily confused.
[14937] At the time of his marriage, Jacob Reed and his wife moved from Hatfield, Twp. to a farm near his wife's parents in Upper Hanover Twp., Philadelphia Co, PA, where he farmed until about 1788.
About this time there was a westward migration of the younger people in the area. Jacob Reed and his family joined this group and first located in Washington Twp., Franklin Co., PA, then moved to Frederick Co., MD, settling near his cousin, Philip Reed.
Jacob and his family did not remain long in Maryland. In 1800 they moved on to Bedford Co., PA, where they remained for about 13 years. The next migration took the family to Sugar Creek Twp., Stark Co., OH, where they were the second white family to settle.
Jacob Reed served in the army during the Revolutionary War.
This date may be wrong. In "A History of the Goshenhoppen Reformed Charge, Montgomery Co., PA (1727-1819)" Vol. II, baptisms, pg 313, shows baptismal record of Anna Marya, dau. of Peter Mauer(er); b. 28 June 1762; sponsors were Johannes Mauer and wife. Further research is necessary.
Buried alongside her husband in family burial plot, Sugar Creek Twp.
Anna Maria, daughter of Peter Maurer....

[9875] Other than being named in the Reed genealogy, nothing is known about Peter Maurer.
In some sources, Peter is named as the son of Lawrence Maurer, b. Germany 1734 and who came to America at age 20. He arrived in Philadelphia on the British ship "Mary & Sarah". Oath of allegiance was taken on 26 Oct. 1754. In 1768 he was living in Heidelberg Twp., Berks Co., PA.
Oct. 2007: Searching HQ census records, as well as Ancestry.com, a number of men named Peter Maurer are found. One, on a list of immigrants who arrived in 1751; others show up in census 1790-1800 in Berks, Lancaster and Northampton counties. Need to analyze the census and other records.
There were at least two Peter Maurers in the Rev. War. First Reformed Congregation of Lancaster Co., PA (found on Ancestry.com) show the presence of one Peter Maurer who married Elizabeth Graffert 12 Jul. 1780. Also earlier baptismal records of the church listed above show at least two Maurer births: 1760 and 1761.
1790 census for Montgomery Co., PA shows a Peter Maurer. Also, an Andrew, George and Jacob. In 1800 there were men named Peter Maurer in Berks, Lancaster and two in Northampton Co. There was also a George Maurer living nextdoor to Peter Maurer in Weisenberg Twp., Northampton Co.
Landowners in Philadelphia Co., PA, 1734 shows the presence of Jacob Mourer in Hanover Twp., Frederick Mowrer also in Hanover Twp., Hance Adam Mourer in Sulford (Salford) and a Rudolph Mowrer, also in Hanover Twp.
It is obvious that there were many different spellings of this surname and it's probably why we have never made progress locating Peter.
Sulford/Salford Twp. is where the Reed family lived and this could be a clue to locating Anna Maria's father.
An act of partage 6 dec 1658, P. Gavin, notary, shows Marguerite Dutoit wife of Jean François Dutoit, notary of Moudon, settling with Pierre Dutoit, in the estate of Claudine Mauron, their mother.
[14425] Bride listed as Claude fille de fust N. Mouron de Chardonnaz.
